Chair’s update
I hope you all enjoyed a wonderful Christmas and a great start to the New Year.
Christmas Festival Night
Despite the bad weather, many people attended our Christmas Festival Night. Stalls offered an excellent range of gifts, cards, decorations, food, hot drinks, and entertainment, while many local shops stayed open to welcome visitors. We are fortunate to have such a vibrant village with a wide variety of shops and places to eat right at the heart of our community. A big thank you to Mid Downs Radio for the festive music and interviews, and to members of the United Reformed Church for providing indoor facilities and refreshments. We are also grateful to 6-10 Traffic Management for managing the road closure and to Event Medic Services for their support. We really appreciated everyone who visited the Parish Council stand to enter the 12 Days of Christmas shop window display competition and share feedback on the Lindfield 20mph conversation. Special thanks go to Goddenwick Farm (www.sussextrees.co.uk) for supplying the High Street Christmas tree, and to Mark Revill Estate Agents, the Stand Up Inn, the URC Church, and several High Street residents who kindly provided power for the tree lights and festive displays. Finally, a huge thank you to the Parish Office team for their outstanding efforts— without them, this event would not have been possible.
We now own a phone box!
We are delighted to announce that the parish council now owns the iconic red phone box on the High Street, preserving this much-loved landmark. Plans are underway to refurbish it and transform it into a useful village resource—more details will follow soon.
Posts and railings by the pond
The council has confirmed to West Sussex County Council that we wish to take responsibility for the roadside posts and railings adjacent to the pond. The proposal involves WSCC first repairing or replacing the posts and railings, with the Parish Council contributing financially. Once completed, we will take on ongoing maintenance. These railings are an important feature, providing a barrier between the road and pavement, and we hope this agreement will be finalised soon.
Lindfield 20mph proposals
Feedback at the Christmas Festival Night was overwhelmingly positive regarding a proposed 20mph speed limit in Lindfield. We will soon conduct a wider survey to gather residents’ views—please look out for this online or delivered to your door. To support this initiative, we are keen to hear from anyone interested in forming a Community Speed Watch Group. While independent of the Parish Council, we can provide advice and guidance to help you get started. The group’s aim will be to collect vehicle speed data, which can then be acted upon.
