Lindfield Coffee Works

Lindfield Coffee Works to open on our High Street

Later this month, Lindfield Coffee Works will be expanding onto the High Street. In a move which has been in the pipeline for some months, Kris Whelan explained: “We are delighted to be taking over the shop which has been Field & Forest for many years. With our existing site on Alma Road, we have been keen to have a High Street presence for some time.”

In the short term, the team will be opening the shop as a Lindfield Coffee Works pop-up coffee shop, focusing on serving takeaway drinks and cakes. However, the shop will have a complete refurbishment and operate as The Black Duck, selling gelato, sandwiches, provisions, pastries and its own coffee. “Our Alma Road site will be more focused on being an ‘eat-in’ café for people to continue to enjoy that space in a more relaxed atmosphere with the addition of an increased space dedicated to our retail coffee bags for people to enjoy at home.”

The pop-up shop is due to open on 13th March, which will operate until the full refurb is completed around the beginning of June.

Lindfield's Christmas Toy Appeal - 2022

Following the success of last year’s Toy Appeal, Lindfield mum Lisa Giffen is once again on a mission to ensure all local children wake up with a special gift on Christmas morning. Lisa is collecting new toys to support children of families using the Haywards Heath Food Bank. Last year, Lindfield residents generously donated 170 toys, putting smiles on the faces of many local children. This year, residents are being asked to drop off toys at three collection points in the village:

“It’s important that the toys for Christmas gifts are new - something parents would give to their own children,” said Lisa, who has put together an Amazon wish list of toys which people can buy while doing their own Christmas shopping. “Last year, the response from Lindfield residents and the local community was amazing,” added Lisa. “This year, the cost-of-living crisis will see many more families struggling at Christmas, so, if residents are able to donate a toy it would mean so much.”

For more information, including the toy ‘wish list’ follow on Instagram @christmastoyappeal or click here. Toys should be dropped off by 17th December.

Sussex Coffee Trucks serves NHS heroes

Local resident Dan Pullen started his own mobile coffee business this year called Sussex Coffee Trucks. It was based around a bright yellow, vintage Citroen horse box. He had secured a permanent pitch with National Trust at the iconic Ditchling Beacon Car Park and things were going fantastically well for the business owner. Until lockdown came, and his business was shut down overnight. The next thing he knew was that he was unable to work, and at home looking after his 6 year old and 2 year old!

By Dan Pullen

It dawned on me that I was in the perfect position to help boost morale at my local hospital by using my vehicle. Everything's better after coffee isn’t it? So the idea was born but it took quite a bit of planning and investigative work to actually get the idea to the right people and have it signed off.

NHS Heroes blend of coffee

I’ve known Kris from Lindfield Coffee Works for many years. He used to supply me with coffee at my last cafe in Brighton and he also sponsors my cycle race team (https://lindfieldcoffee.team/) so it was only natural that I continued that relationship in my new business. When he heard about my idea he jumped at the chance to help out with coffee beans and even offered to help run a few shifts. I put together an online fundraiser too and the response was phenomenal! I ordered up all the products I needed and we were ready to go.

It was a huge success. I served over 1,000 drinks in the first week! Feedback was fantastic and everyone was so grateful. It felt amazing to be able to lift spirits for these hardworking heroes.

Last week I was approached by two local companies that had seen my posts on social media and wanted to donate cakes too which were gratefully received and went down a storm! Thank you to: The Garden Chef and Round Table Cookery

We’ve been doing 4 days per week throughout April and will continue until either the funds run out or that I’m aloud to return to doing what I love most: Providing amazing coffee and cake to all the lovely visitors to Ditching Beacon.

Thinking on Purpose - Taking Control

NineDot Partnership workshop in Lindfield

Have you ever found yourself in a fruitless mind spiral? Replaying a scenario that makes you sad or angry? Thinking about doing something but never getting started? Perhaps these thoughts start to spin out of control, leaving you feeling frustrated, angry, paranoid or confused?

When you see it for what it is, doesn’t it feel like a complete and utter waste of time and energy?

This negative ‘hamster wheel’ style of thinking has a massive impact on how you feel and these emotions impact your physiology, behaviour and your performance. This type of thinking produces a classic stress response, a release of cortisol and adrenalin which actually shuts down the frontal cortex of the brain impacting your ability to think logically, to plan and to make rational decisions and perform well when it counts.

Let’s consider just one way of thinking on purpose, let’s change our self-talk. The problem with self-talk is that it is often negative, critical, even harsh, and we aren’t necessarily aware of what we might be saying to ourselves. The one guaranteed thing is that we are always listening and therefore we should be very careful about what we say. Many of my clients used to talk themselves down. They had a negative commentary running in their heads. This became the narrative to their lives and negatively impacted everything they tried to do. Often they didn’t succeed and this reinforced their negative chatter, which further impacted their next attempt. My clients used to say things like ‘I’m rubbish at this’, ‘this is hopeless’, ‘I’ll never get there’… and guess what – they didn’t, until they started thinking on purpose and taking control!

Top performers, whether in business, in sports or even on the stage, are able to take control of their thinking; they are able to use their ‘self-talk’ to direct their thoughts. In taking control they own their narrative and therefore own their emotional response and, ultimately, control their performance. They think on purpose, they are positive and powerful in what they say to themselves and they have their phrases and mantras ready to counter any negative thoughts which might creep in.

They use positively framed language so that they constantly focus on what they want and not what they don’t want; for example, they might say ‘make it count’ rather than ‘don’t miss’, or ‘I’m the expert’ rather than ‘the audience must know more than me’ or ‘I’m excited to retain this client’ rather than ‘I’m terrified of losing this business’. To achieve more and to outperform our ‘norm’ we will want to think differently and think on purpose. As Einstein once said: ‘Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result’.

When we practise our pre-performance, positive, self-talk, it creates a sense of control. It puts us in the driver’s seat and it steers us to achieve our desired outcomes. Consistently thinking on purpose and achieving our goals reinforces our self-confidence and motivates us to achieve more. Think on purpose, take control, own your narrative and be your best self.

5 Star Lindfield - Move Revolution

By Mathew Gurr, Move Revolution

Welcome to our second market report of 2017. We hope you have enjoyed the summer holidays, although it does feel like a summer of sunshine and showers.

Since our last report we have enjoyed plenty of activity within the village. In fact it has been our most productive quarter for selling homes in Lindfield since our launch. The great thing is that those properties range from two bedroom apartments to four bedroom homes, demonstrating that there is demand for all types of Lindfield homes. The buyers see the value in what we all already know – it is a fantastic village to live in. The market is challenging, of that there is no doubt, and it is more price sensitive than at any point over the last three years. That said, we are seeing more than ever the benefit of the very best marketing coupled with experience and hard work. On that note, we are also thrilled to have achieved 100% 5 star reviews (independently verified by raterAgent) for all our sales in Lindfield.

This made us think… what else is a 5 star experience in Lindfield? This month we thought we would share three Move Revolution 5 star experiences. We love to share these with potential residents!
