Cyclists in Lindfield are invited to the popular Race the Sun South Downs challenge on Saturday 15th May 2027 and raise funds for children’s charity Action Medical Research.

Next year’s event features a major shift to appeal to the region’s booming cycling communityand respond to the massive surge in all-terrain cycling with the cycling phase upgraded from a traditional road route to an off-road gravel riding course.

Pitting teams of two or four against the clock, participants will battle the elements to bike, hike, and paddle across a demanding circular course - striving to cross the finish line before the sun sets over the coast.

Starting from the event hub in Seaford, the teams will tackle the new off-road gravel bike route, a steep endurance hike with views across to the world-famous chalk cliffs of the Seven Sisters, and a team canoe phase on the Cuckmere Meanders.

“Watching teams support one another through those final miles on the Downs is incredibly moving. Every penny raised will help fund medical research into conditions affecting babies and children,” said Felicity Louden, head of events at Action Medical Research.

Registration is now open with a registration fee of £120 for a team of two, £240 for a team of four, and a commitment to a fundraising target of £500 per person.
